This is modest sized painting that is trying to capture an interior view with a set of Theoretical Sculptures, one a Female Bust with Lapis Lazuli Hair, the other a simple Wine Glass of Stars, a sort of Portal, then interrupted by a Rip. This painting has emerged from a series of developmental drawings, they begin as Black and White ink studies, improvisational in nature then evolve into more sustained paintings with thick impasto paint, directly applied and subtly adjusted until the present scene emerges.

This is a painting depicting a Lamassu carved out of Diorite, with a Fleshy Wing and Partnered Modernist Sculptures at is Hocks. They all emerging or embedded in the same chunk of rock. This idea came to me as I was working on the preliminary drawings, which come about in an intuitive manner. The drawing that appeared and shaped itself began to resemble an Assyrian Lamassu that I remember from an Art History Class I was teaching, then when the paint began to be chosen, I was reminded of the stone, Diorite, of which the Seated Khafre from Ancient Egypt was shaped. In all cases, the Figure never emerges fully from its original stone source.

This is part of a series of paintings that try to create a scene of Theoretical Sculptures in Fantastical Settings. This particular painting has a Starry Portal upfront a sort of "negative shape" if you will and the background is a set of Loosely rendered Lawn colored Wings, Like an Arte Povera Piece from the late 80's, then a Silhouetted Form of Rusty Clay interjects front and center.
